volume 2; romance [in the know...]

in the know…photographing romance.

by: Vanessa Rae

Romance is what I love to photograph. I get lost in a couple and how they interact with each other. The small glances, soft kisses, and the tender way they hold each other. Their simplicity of love touches my soul and allows my heart to keep believing.

When I work with a couple, I always instruct them on what I am looking for, and always let them create the moment. This way it stays natural. Making a couple feel comfortable to the point that they forget that I am there, gives me a chance to really catch their passion. Starting off with simple posing, then into more dramatic helps the couple relax. Allowing them to just be them, and let their love and personalities come through. When shooting couples, don’t be afraid to really get close and capture the intimate details of love. The in between moments, the quiet and still moments. Those are the ones that leave you breathless.

Nothing is better then when I look through my camera and see love. When I  capture that perfect romantic moment, I always scream in delight. We all are laughing as I do the happy love dance. After every couple session or wedding, I leave so fulfilled. I am touched and inspired by every couple. I am grateful  to be apart of so many beautiful love stories.

Some of my favorite romantic moments…how can you not get lost in love?

“If we never found this love
If we never took that road
If we hadn’t had the heart
We wouldn’t have this home

Love, love will take you
Love, love will take you there”

this song speaks to my heart. The words are exactly how being in a relationship should be…just how love should sound.

“We are gonna build a life together
You and I for ever and ever
And we’ll, we’ll make babies on the beach
Under the stardust
And I’ll hear your voice come through the door
A thousand times, maybe more
And I’ll smile inside to know you’re mine
Completely

Do you know how lovely you are?
In the starlight, in the starlight of my heart
Do you know how lovely you are?
In the moonlight, in the moonlight of my heart

And I’ll wind up every day
Thinking about the way you make me feel
When your lips touch my lips
And I’d crawl inside a cave
Or live somewhere strange
As long as I’m with you
I have got what I need”

Happy Thursday.

Take the time to hold the one you love, do something romantic for them, and always take the time to let them know how special they are. Never waist a moment with the one you love. Keep them close, protect them, and go out of your way to make their world complete. True bliss will come from being in love.

Tara - What beautiful images depicting romance. And I love your words. They make me feel. Thank you guys soo much.

Volume 2; Romance [Tiffany says]

Sitting in Starbucks with my coffee in hand and my headphones in listening to some soul music, I think about this weeks word. Romance? Wow, we chose romance as our 2nd word? What am I going to say about romance? An interesting topic….Deep breath.

I sit and search my mind for the romance that fills my world. I look up the definition again and I see “a love affair”….and I lean back in my chair, stare out the window, and think about love. It’s actually pretty simple I think, as I listen to Mat Kearney sing “Ships in the night”…I have a love affair with music. It’s a part of my soul…part of what keeps me sane. What keeps my body moving, my mind dancing and my heart believing.

Since I was a little girl I have adored music. I have loved lyrics. I have been impacted by the way they both have molded me. I can remember so vividly dancing with my mom to the Carpenters in our basement watching the record spin around and around, while we did the same. I do that exact thing with my own daughters daily. Take them by the hands and we spin round and round. My girls ask me to dance everyday and they giggle hysterically as we move our way around the house…it is the best part of my day, I suspect it may be the best part of theirs too.

If you know me, you’ll know that my life’s timeline revolves around music. When I hear music I can tell you exactly where in was in my life when it impacted me. I’m fairly certain that most of my brain is consumed with musical lyrics. Lyrics that have not only taught me but helped me through countless times in my life. Music has become my therapy. A way for me to escape and got lost in a perfect combination of melody and poetry. I look forward to the times I can drive for hours just to get lost in the beautiful words of music. I anticipate my long runs so that my soul and body are in unison with the rhythm of the music and the  repetition of each step, pushing me to work harder. I’m grateful for the new string of lyrics that I am so certain were written just for me. And those moments of seeing music live, feeling the emotion pour from the artist, it’s almost so thick you can drink it in….perfect. These are the moments where I truly know I am alive. And I breath it in deep…

Last night I had the pleasure of seeing one of my favorite artists in concert. Mat Kearney. I’ve been waiting for months…had the tickets hanging on my fridge in anticipation…today they were gone. As I watched him perform, I thought to myself…enjoy this moment…it too will be gone soon. Just as all great things in life…they always goes by too fast.

Last night my heart was full. Thank you Mat for a perfect show.

Two of my favorite Mat Kearney songs…

It’s a very hard question for most people to answer. What is your favorite song? And for me, of course I have a list many miles long. But I do have one favorite. It’s “In your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel. To many people it may seem cliche, but for me it’s been my favorite for years. It plays in one of my favorite movies “Say Anything”, in one of my favorite scenes of all times (the famous boom box scene). It has played loud in my room in high school, my college apartment, in every car I’ve ever driven, while I was giving birth to my second daughter, it’s playing in my house tonight. Not sure why it resonates so deeply with me. It just does. Every time I hear it, it brings me to many times in my life and to many emotions.

“and all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside”

Music is my constant…..always there waiting to feed my soul, ready to take my mind to wherever it is I need to go at that very moment. At the simple push of a triangle, I am where I need to be…To a place in the past, to a place of sympathy, a place of power, a place where I can relate, to a place happiness, a place of love. It is passionate, it is hopeful, it makes my heart sing.

Music is my romance, my love affair. What is your “romance”?

(this shoot took a total of 10 minutes, we drove 2 minutes down the street from Vanessa’s house and snapped a few. Just a reminder that you can grab some fun shots in a very minimal amount of time)

Tara - I love music as well. What a perfect love affair to have. It’s amazing how a simple song can change so much in yourself. Very inspiring.

volume 2; romance [vanessa says...]

Plain and simple, I am a romantic. I believe in the fairy tale ending with the knight that rides up on his white horse, saving me from despair. In the moment at the end of a movie when the man rushes back, grabs his woman, and pronounces his love for her. To be swept off my feet, and shown real love. To be adored. To be old, and still so in love. To walk down a street and have my breath taken away just by the brush of his hand. And to have my own butterfly riot in my stomach every time I look at him. My own Noah and Allie love story…

Yes, to be me…is to love, love.

I believe it is possible to have a love affair that lasts forever.

Romance. a love affair.

To share with someone a love that cannot be lost. It can not be shattered. It is a bond that connects your hearts together forever. That even though you will grow old and frail. The heart will never let go of the love, the romance, and passion it shares with its mate. Its soul mate. A true love affair.

“Nothing is ever really lost, or can be lost,

No birth, identity, form–no object of the world.

Nor life, nor force, nor any visible thing;

Appearance must not foil, nor shifted sphere confuse thy brain.

Ample are time and space–ample the fields of Nature.

The body, sluggish, aged, cold–the embers left from earlier fires,

The light in the eye grown dim, shall duly flame again;

The sun now low in the west rises for mornings and for noons continual;

To frozen clods ever the spring’s invisible law returns,

With grass and flowers and summer fruits and corn.”

-Walt Whitman

 love note…

Lie Still. Let this woman show you a new world. A world where you are important. Everyday. Not just when she wants to…but always. This woman sees what you have to give. She sees the importance in you. She loves you. She has found her balance in you. You fit her soul and take her breath away. She wakes in the morning thinking of you. And the last thought she has before she falls asleep is always you. This woman believes in you. Wants you to reach every goal and dream you have. She knows you will lift her, and guide her. You will push her to her best. You will stand next to her, letting her remain her, and love her for that. She will encourage you for better. She will show you love in everything.

She is your love. She is your match. She is one that will sit with you in morning and talk over coffee, laugh at your silly thoughts, let your mind wonder, and listen to every word. She will hold you in the hard moments and help you through. She will support you in all that you do. Let you, be you. Go and be adventurous with you. You will see the world with her.  And being with her will make the journey of new experiences even richer. She brings a new light to your world. Things you have always done, will be new again.

Romance and Passion.

You fit together. Like a beautiful dance, she flows around you. Everything is where it should be when she is with you. Close is where you want her. Her smell invites you in. Her eyes tell you what she wants. You see her love for you. It is easy, pure, real, and selfless.

A Pure Sweet Romance.

Sit with her, hold her, tell her…she is waiting. And when you let her in, truly getting rid of everything else holding you back, she will be yours forever. Simple love, beautiful love, enriching life, the woman that came when you weren’t ready, she waits. Waits for you.

When you find the one that your heart has been searching for, your heart won’t let that person go. She reached for you…and found her heart.

Reach for her now…Find your heart.

Nothing is ever really lost, or can be lost.

The act of love can never be lost. When it is pure, kind, and real. It will be continual. Always there.

Surrender. Let your life be blessed with romance. Let your heart open to a possibility of love. Find your hearts soul mate. And when you do..hold on tight. Fight for them and the importance of them.

Fall in love. Believe in it. Find that romance, your own love affair with your soul mate. And bask in the bliss to follow.

Happy Valentines Day…
